Residential Care

The Ann Challis Residential home in Urmston, Manchester is a beautiful Victorian property retaining many of its lovely period features, which has been converted and improved to provide a comfortable and friendly home for up to 23 elderly residents. The Ann Challis home has been providing care for the elderly for over 60 years and has an exceptional reputation within the community.

We believe that the Ann Challis home is your home and we like you to treat it as such. There are no fixed visiting times so family and friends are welcome to come and see you at any time and even, perhaps, to share a cup of tea and a slice of home-made cake in one of our private sitting areas. You decide what you want to do and when to do it, just as you would at home and when help, support or care is needed we are always there to provide a helping hand.

We encourage individuality and provide a supportive environment in which our residents can maintain their independence and dignity and enjoy the highest quality of life.

At Ann Challis we provide care that is professional but, at the same time, personal to the individual’s needs. We provide this care in a friendly and homely atmosphere where the privacy, enjoyment and convenience of our residents is always our priority. The emphasis is on offering everyone an improved quality of life combined with the highest possible standards of 24 hour care provided by a team of dedicated and trained staff.

You will benefit from a personalised care plan, excellent food, a regular activities and entertainment programme, social outings, the use of our beautiful private sunny garden, and the convenience of having services such as hairdressing and chiropody visiting on site.

Our philosophy of care can best be summed up in the words of the following anonymous poem:

Blessed are they who understand
My faltering step and palsied hand.
Blessed are they who know my ears today
Must strain to catch the things they say.
Blessed are they who seem to know
My eyes are dim and wits are slow.
Blessed are they who look away
When coffee was spilt on the table today.
Blessed are they with a cheery smile
Who stop to chat for a little while.
Blessed are they who never say
“You’ve told that story twice today.”
Blessed are they who know the way
To bring back memories of yesterday.
Blessed are they who make it known
I’m loved, respected, and not alone.
Blessed are they who ease the days
On my journey home in loving ways.

So if you are going to need that helping hand why not come and meet us and see the home for yourself. Just call the Manager, Margaret Madden on:
